Stus Fest
January 2025 Ukraine and the whole world will host second Stus Fest.
International Festival dedicated to the life and poetry of Vasyl Stus – one of the most prominent Ukrainian poets, a dissident, allegedly killed by the soviets in 1985.
nitiated by THREE THEATRES from Ukraine: DSP Theatre, ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine and Theatre of War Action
– Stus Fest leader is Alex Borovenskiy, theatre director and cultural manager.
Festival will be there the whole January 2025 with the key events on Jan 06 (Vasyl Stus birthday).
Stus Fest goals:
- coverage of Vasyl Stus as one of the key figures of Ukranian nation identity, identifying, uniting and initiating all Stus-connected projects both in Ukraine and abroad during January 2025.
The slogan of Stus Fest 2025 – STUSTHROUGH.
It means that this year the figure of Vasyl Stus and his poetry will make a breakthrough in all world. There are 50 Stus events in different countries of the world. 13 cities are hosting Stus events as of now (Kyiv, Dnipro, London, Ankara, Chernivtsi, Charlotte, Alicante, Warsaw, Edmonton, Dublin and more, the list is being updated daily). 20 contries are planned to take part in Stus Fest 2025
Stus Fest 2025 is going to engage ALL SEVEN CONTINENTS and as of now we got the confirmation from The Ukrainian Antarctic Akademik Vernadsky station to take part. Which means that this year Vasyl Stus poems will be heard among penguins.
The list of participants is being updated daily. Any country or city can take part and co-organize a Stus event in Jan 2025. To join Stus Fest as a participant one should write to the organizers stusfestukraine@gmail.com
The key date of Stus Fest is traditionally Jan 06 – the birthday of Vasyl Stus. This year on Jan 06, 2025 we will have the official opening of International Stus Fest 2025. It’ll take place in National Les Kurbas Cetnre (Ukraine, Kyiv, 23V Volodymyrska). The programme includes:
– Presenting the updated STUSANINA performance by Theatre of War Actions
In this theatre the only actors are current servicemen of Armed Forces of Ukraine and war veterans. They will act in STUSANINA performance directed by Alex Borovenskiy.
– Poetry evening where Vasyl Stus poems will be read by film and theatre celebrities (the list is being finalized as we speak)
– Presenting key events of Stus Fest 2025 and greetings from different countries – participants of the festival
